On the 2nd of September, UnionPay International announced that, consumers can now pay with UnionPay cards. 70% of merchants in UK, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Spain which are the six major tourist destination, accept UnionPay cards, and UnionPays acceptance footprint expands from duty free shops and department stores to more catering and entertainment establishments.
Convenience with UnionPay
38 countries and regions in Europe now has UnionPay. Over 80% of the local ATMs in Italy,UnionPay cards Spain, Greece, Switzerland, Austria, and Iceland accept UnionPay cards. However, over 60% of ATMs accept UnionPay cards in France. Withdrawal of cash can be done with UnionPay cards in Ireland, Finland and Sweden.
France and Germany, this year have become competitive rivals to traditional tourist destinations. There are improvements from the UnionPays acceptance footprint in these countries such as there are 130,000 and 90,000 more merchants in Italy and Spain accepting UnionPay and making UnionPays merchant coverage reach 60% and 70% respectively.
