Over the sales of Morpho business, France Safran negotiated with Oberthur Technologies. After the merging of Gemplus and Axalto back in 2006 which made Gemalto an undisputed leader, Morpho accepted to be viewed as the fourth and the last leading global player while Oberthur and Giesecke were in a battle for the second position in the industry.
In 2015, Oberthur reached EUR 1.16 billion revenue. The company employed 6,300 staffs ever since. Morpho on the other hand recorded roughly EUR 1.6 billion and 7,800 staffs in 2015.
Combining both company’s revenue, the company creates an entity of EUR 2.8 billion.
Gemalto reached EUR 3.1 billion revenue and employed 14,000 staffs in 2015.
It is no doubt that Gemalto would face a strong challenge, as Oberthur and Morpho work hand in hand.
In terms of sales volume and employees, Oberthur-Morpho and Gemalto are on par. With the same vision, Oberthur-Morpho and Gemalto shares the same engineering and innovation culture
